Sonia Talwar (Case Study)

Sonia Talwar

Sonia Talwar opened her first Practice in November 16 as a Franchise Partner on the new shopping development of Mere Green near Sutton Coldfield in the West Midlands.

Sonia worked for many years with Boots Opticians across a number of Practices in the local area to gain as much experience as possible before deciding upon her career moving into franchising with Boots Opticians which allowed Sonia to prepare for the opening of her new franchise Practice.

Sonia shared "I was keen to remain within the brand as the focus upon the customer is really important to me and I want to be able to share with my patients the best possible care, with the best range of lens and frames they deserve.  I have felt supported by Boots all along the process of waiting for my unit, the design and layout of the Practice and then the building of the Practice further confirmed to me that the decision to open with Boots was absolutely the right thing for Mere Green customers and for me".

Alisha Daley-Morris and Rob Hopwood (Case Study)

Alisha Daley-Morris and Rob Hopwood

Boots opened the new Franchise Practice in Warminster with Alisha Daley-Morris and Rob Hopwood.  Rob is currently the Franchise Partner in our Devizes Practice he opened in 2012 and has now gone into partnership with Alisha to open his second new Practice.

Alisha and Rob studied together in Cardiff before qualifying in 2008.  Rob completed his USWEP and Pre-reg programmes with Boots, spent time with Independent Optician businesses and other High Street Optician brands.

Rob was an Optometrist in a number of Practices with Boots before stepping into a Practice Manager role which was a great experience before he open the new Practice in Devizes. Alisha has worked within the optical industry since she was 16 years old around Wales and the Midlands with Vision Express.  Alisha joined Boots and Rob after hearing about the success of Devizes and hearing about the opportunity to share her clinical focus with the patients of Warminster through Boots.  Alisha shared "the process to becoming a Franchise Partner has been a long one but really worth it and whilst I knew it was going to be exciting opening the Practice is far beyond what I imagined it would feel like".  Whilst Rob commented "the brand continues to be strong and well placed to focus upon the health care agenda for patients who use Boots the Chemist, Boots Hearingcare as well as Boots Opticians for their medical needs.  The product offer is fantastic and allows us to meet the needs of our local customers"

Peter Rogers (case study)

Peter Rogers

Pete started his career in optics during university, whilst studying Optometry, when he began as an Optical consultant in his local Vision Express store, followed by his pre-registration year in 2011.

After qualifying as an Optometrist Pete realised he wanted to be part of a business that combined a trusted health led brand, with potential business and franchise opportunities, which is why Pete moved to Boots Opticians and gained his first insights into the running of a practice. Pete had a clear career path which allowed him to gain leadership experience by becoming an Optometrist Assistant Manager in a large Practice before becoming an Optometrist Practice Manager.

To own his own Boots Opticians franchise was the goal from the moment Pete completed his pre-registration year. Pete bought his first franchise Practice in Street, Somerset in January 2015 after submitting a business plan to the bank to provide funding. "Off the back of the success of this Practice I was able to set up a brand new franchise in Wells 2 years later." Pete commented “There are challenges you face with both opening a new store, and buying an existing franchise. In a new store you have the challenge of building a patient database from scratch, whereas buying an established business, you have to challenge what has been done before you. Both allow you as the Optometrist Director to shape how your practice provides Eye care and ultimately determines your success.”

Pete observed that he has learnt over the past few years that the passion and enjoyment he has for his role as an Optometrist is what ensures his customers return and helps motivate his team whilst his focus as a Franchise Partner helps drive the business forward.

Off the back of the success of this Practice I was able to set up a brand new franchise in Wells 2 years later.
