Investment required

For every franchise opportunity we work with you to support the development of your business plan to meet your individual circumstances and requirements to help establish if this is the right opportunity for you and Boots Opticians.

It goes without saying that setting up in business will require some capital. Below is a summary of the main costs when opening a new franchise.

Franchise Partner Agreement Fee £10,000 which is your licence to trade in that location for the next 20 years.

For a new Practice you can expect to pay a Shop fit of between £160,000 and £210,000 dependent upon the size of the Practice. Our Franchise Partners benefit from the efficiencies and agreements Boots have negotiated with our contractors which means you pay the same price as Boots Opticians for the shopfit. Stock of c.£20,000, Legal costs of c.£10,000 for Boots Opticians and your personal fees. IT hardware and instalation of c.£20,000. Optical equipment for a minimum of one consultation room and pre-screen area of c.£40,000 which is purchased from Boots Opticians preferred suppliers. Franchise Partners benefit from negotiated prices and warranties aligned to the owned Practices.

Capital investment will depend upon the location and size of each new Practice plus there may be a need for an additional cash flow requirement which will be illustrated in your business plan.
Boots Opticians work closely with the major banks, many have been supporting our franchisees for over 20 years. This track record combined with our robust business model means that the banks are keen to support new Franchise Partners.

New Franchise Partners will need to demonstrate a personal investment in addition to potential lending from the banks and other lenders who understand the Boots Opticians Franchise model.

It is possible that lenders may require some form of security for your loan, normally from equity in a property. If you don't have sufficient equity to secure your loan then the government Enterprise Loan Guarantee Scheme may be able support you by providing the necessary security. This scheme is designed to support new businesses start ups and has to date helped many people fulfil their ambitions.

We also have strong relationships with lease finance companies who are able to assist and support alternative funding arrangements for equipment and shop fittings.
